Welcome to the Leaven Bakery page! For those of you who do not know us, we are Zechariah and Kimberly Maxey. We both have nearly 10 years experience each being professional chefs. We both lost our jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic/restaurant shut downs. In order to make ends meet, we started baking out of our small apartment during quarantine. A few orders a week quickly turned into twenty orders, then forty, then 60, and so on and so forth. After a year of baking out of our small home oven, 1500+ deliveries later, and enormous amount of support from the community, we opened Leaven Bakery in New Albany, IN.
We are both from Bakersfield, CA and have been residing in the Kentuckiana area since 2017. During our time here, Zechariah has worked as the Executive Chef at Galaxie Bar and as the Sous Chef for Jack Frys. Kimberly was the Executive Pastry Chef for both 8up Elevated Drinkery and The Historic Brown Hotel.
Zechariah attended The Art Institute in Santa Monica, CA and Kimberly attended Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena, CA. We offer all from scratch breads, pastries, and a rotating seasonal menu for breakfast & lunch.

Focusing on seasonality and local produce and grain. Our creations and signature items are sure to exceed all of your expectations.
